Fresenius’ innovative medical products and services are designed to contribute to the well-being of people. Our work and research are dedicated to health. It goes without saying that we strive to conserve nature as the basis of life for the present generation and those to come. We are committed to ”Sustainable Development” to guide our industrial society toward more future-oriented development.

We have firmly integrated environmental protection targets into our organization. Certifications in accordance with ISO 14001: 2004 at various plants of the Fresenius Group prove that we take environmental protection seriously. A focus in 2006 was on reducing energy consumption at a number of production sites. For example, in St. Wendel, our largest European production site, we achieved a further significant reduction in our consumption of steam throught the use of heat recovery systems, and lowered our annual consumption of natural gas by 4 percent.

Reducing emissions

In logistics we will continue to increase the number of double-decker trucks in our fleet. Currently, we have 20 of these trucks, which represent savings of 1.6 million kilometers or approximately 500,000 liters of fuel. This is a contribution towards reducing harmful emissions.

One cornerstone of our environmental management is the development and production of low-pollution and low-emission products. We again substantially increased the production of PVC-free infusion bags at our infusion solution production facilities.
