Friedberg plant maintains high recycling rate
In Friedberg (Hesse), several pharmaceutical plants have been concentrated into one production and logistics center. The plant's materials recycling system was further optimized in 2006: We installed a compacting machine for cardboard waste. Compression reduces the volume of waste by 50 percent, cutting transport costs for its disposal. Altogether, some 5,800 metric tons of materials were recycled. The recycling rate was about 94 percent, as in the previous year.
Surplus nutrition solutions are re-used as a buffer solution in a sewage plant where they serve as nourishment for the micro-organisms that help to purify the water.
PVC-free infusion bags
In 1999, Fresenius Kabi began the production of freeflex® PVC-free infusion bags. Freeflex® is made from Biofine® foil, which was developed by Fresenius researchers, and is very safe and easy to handle.
