Transparent and understandable: medical quality at HELIOS
HELIOS firmly believes that patients have a right to access comprehensive information on the quality of a hospital. Where this is concerned, quality management at HELIOS goes far beyond the legal requirements. Since 2001, the more than 30 HELIOS acute care hospitals have established a system of quality assurance that is still one of a kind in Germany. This system concentrates primarily on the results of the medical treatments performed. The goal of HELIOS’ hospitals is to achieve treatment results for all complex clinical pictures that are preferably better than the comparable German average or, if known, similar to the best international results.
This is achieved by constantly comparing and exchanging knowledge, whereby physicians from the respective best hospitals share their expertise with others. This not only makes HELIOS a pioneer in the disclosure of treatment results and the transparent measurement of the quality of medical results. The hospital group can also account for the success of its quality management system on the basis of decreasing mortality rates and other clearly improved medical results.
Overview of HELIOS hospitals: the HELIOS Hospital Guide
To help patients inform themselves about a hospital, its disease categories, specialties, doctors, and treatment results, HELIOS has created the HELIOS Hospital Guide. It shows patients which HELIOS hospitals are best qualified for their clinical picture, who will treat them there, what the hospital’s experience has been with a particular clinical picture, and what results have been achieved. The HELIOS Hospital Guide is available in print for each hospital as well as online (German only).
Quality overview and comparison: the Annual Medical Report
HELIOS publishes a comprehensive overview of the treatment results of its hospitals in the Annual Medical Reports. These reports contain all data on quality for the hospitals of the group and, given their complexity, are targeted mainly at experts.
