Uppsala
Environmental planning from the start Fresenius Kabi operates in Uppsala, Sweden, a high-tech manufacturing plant for parenteral nutrition solutions since 1999. Environmental protection was a focal point of the planning right from the beginning. This included the selection of construction materials as well as the production processes themselves: |
- Infusion solutions are packaged in environmentally-friendly plastic containers. The containers are made from recyclable materials that do not produce toxic emissions or toxic waste during disposal.
- A membrane filter system for purifying waste water and liquid waste reduces the volume as well as costs of waste disposal.
- The ventilation system uses heat exchangers to cool and heat. This means that heated exhaust air is used to pre-heat incoming fresh air.
- In 2006, old cooling systems were replaced with new, environmentally friendly systems, so that electricity consumption in this area was lowered altogether by 30 percent.
- Avoiding ecological damage and improving biodegradability is considered when selecting chemicals such as cleaning products. All employees have access to a database where they can find information on health and safety precautions and other necessary regulatory requirements.
- Volatile organic compounds are captured with a new condensation system.
- One aim for the future is to cut transport capacities by half by making more effective use of truck space.
The environmental program also includes continuous improvements in:
- Reducing emissions of greenhouse gases
- Reducing the amount of cleaning agents
- Increasing the use of environmentally-friendly materials
- Analyzing and reducing energy consumption
